We strive to provide our clients with skilled, efficient, compassionate legal services. As your lawyer, our goals are that you understand what we’re doing and why we’re doing it, that you leave the situation with your dignity intact, and that you retain some tools for future conflict resolution. We hope our clients and colleagues find us kind, smart, and approachable, with strong shoulders to help ease your burdens and a sense of humor to get you through the rough spots.
We offer services in a wide variety of legal areas, to include family law, estate planning, probate, special education, criminal law, personal injury, business law, real estate, and other general civil matters. We do not handle bankruptcy, wrongful termination, or most federal matters.
Our commitment to our community can be seen in the wide variety of community organizations we support with sponsorships. These include:
- Richmond Symphony Orchestra
- Richmond Civic Theatre
- Cope Environmental Center
- Richmond Evening Optimists
This quotation from Abraham Lincoln, widely considered one of the greatest lawyers of all time, sums up our practice philosophy pretty well: “Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbors to compromise whenever you can. Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser — in fees, expenses, and waste of time. As a peacemaker the lawyer has a superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough.” Of course, we love the courtroom, so if your case must go to trial, we’ll gladly get you through it. However, as most litigants learn much too late, results at trial are rarely fully satisfying. As retired Wayne County Superior Court I Judge P. Thomas Snow once said, if both sides leave his courtroom a little bit unhappy, he probably got it right.
We relish our roles as peacemakers. That is, ultimately, why we signed up for the privilege of practicing law.
